“Like all explorers, we are drawn to discover what’s out there without knowing yet if we have the courage to face it.” Pema Chodron

Counseling for Mind and Body

My counseling practice is grounded in unconditional support for my clients. Our sessions will evolve through a process of working together to understand how past experiences influence present day perceptions, actions and ways of relating to others.

I believe that we all have parts of ourselves that need healing from the past. I am committed to creating a safe, supportive and nonjudgmental environment in which to begin unpacking some of the old beliefs that we hold from painful past experiences.

Together we will look at past history and make connections between it and present day conflicts and obstacles.  We will identify the belief systems that were created in childhood, and we will work to generate new tools that can help to make changes in that belief system.

In my work, I like to reference the term “inner child”. This refers to the child inside of us who experienced unresolved pain at a young age. By developing a relationship with this “inner child,” many of my clients have experienced a new sense of integration and wholeness.

“In each of us, there is a young, suffering child. We have all had times of difficulty as children and many of us have experienced trauma. To protect and defend ourselves against future suffering, we often try to forget those painful times. Every time we’re in touch with the experience of suffering, we believe we can’t bear it, and we stuff our feelings and memories deep down in our unconscious mind. It may be that we haven’t dared to face this child for many decades.”  Thich Nhat Hanh from Reconciliation-Healing the Inner Child
